On the East Side
Poem by Guillermo Hubbartt

On the East Side
everything is close
and everyone is familiar
People you see, on the street,
at the mall, on the corner
- not all are friends
Everything is polarized
love or hate.
On the East side
There are only two directions
down or out
walk slow but be quick
any passing car
might seal your fate.
On the east side
we were once Overfelt Royals
but now between Eastridge
and the Pink Elephant
I knowÉthat I can't stay,
but still, will always be
On the East Side.
