Kill The Beef

On September 8 th , East Palo Alto elders organized Kill The Beef, an event calling for young people to stop the violence on each other in the community.   “I want to see you guys around the community, not at another funeral where I have to bury another young brother or son,” said Pastor Andre Harris.   At one point, the elders asked people to write down the name of someone they wanted to bury their differences with and place their name in a casket.   About 300 people – including young people, mothers, fathers, and kids -- kept Jack Farrell Park drama-free, proving to everyone, especially the local police, that East Palo Alto folks do know how to keep the peace.   Local poets, dancers, and rap acts, that entertained the crowd.
