Do You ...
By Farah Gowani

Do you ever wonder
Do you ever wonder about those unheard voices,
like the ones behind a prison cell that wreak of the blood of past victims
or of that boy that sings in the subway train hoping to earn some money for food that day,
or the young man who sees his friend get shot in the ghetto
- of the woman with scars from the cruelty of a violent husband-
or of the man in the wheelchair who smileseven in the face of adversity.
Do you hear the screams of men being tortured
in prisons. Why do you close your eyes. Is it too loud? What are you going
to do about it. Do you sit in your peaceful home and pray, or do you take
action. Will you make a difference or will you let these faces just
disappear, cease to exist, die in this land of freedom and equality
