What I See
Poem and Art by Jaleesa Vickers (Know Writer)

When I put on your glasses / I pretend to be you / Not to see better / But just to see you / These things help me see / With sight unclouded by hate / I want to see what it's like / If it's not too late / I fondle the frame / To adjust my sight / All to understand / What you think is right / I'll keep them right here / It won't be too long / It might take a while / For me to realize I'm wrong / When I put on your glasses / I am you for a day / In a life so turbulent... / Filled with discord and dismay / When I blink my eyes / They strain out of sight / I guess I couldn't handle / Being you for tonight / When I take off your glasses / I see the world anew / A life full of confusion / The threat of pain very true / A chance of something better / Pulling hope through and through / Because when I put on your glasses / I see things like you. /
